Rose Festival 2021

It was not the first Saturday of May; actually, it was the last but at the usual place and time. It was not just another edition of the “Festa de la Rosa” (Rose Festival); it was a special edition in many ways. In the first place, because of the date, as we said, and secondly, there was no traditional contest. But, above all, it has been one of the first events held with people.

This “Festa de la Rosa” edition will go down in history because we had to keep the sanitary precautions currently enforced, such as a staggered entry from different places, an enclosed venue with access only by invitation, separate seats, and the use of masks all the time.

It was 10 pm when the lights of the emblematic “Plaza Mayor” turned off and went over to the event’s hostess, the journalist Marta Fullera. She broke down the event and introduced each participating group that performed on two stages prepared for the occasion to smooth the flow of the event and overall so that the components of each group could play with the microphones disinfected.

The night was filled with typical melodies and serenades. They were performed by the “Tuna de Magisterio,” our friends, Sequioleros of honor, responsible for years of playing serenades to the Sequiol women, the “Rondalla Vora Sequia,” “Voz y Modos,” “Rosa de Maig,” and “Kanocafe” (which performed for the first time). The group “Jaracanda,” which played a serenade once in our Cau Gaiatero, and has long been sequioleros of honor, closed the night.

All groups, with their melodies, enjoyed the audience that came to complete the capacity. Of course, our Sequiol representatives, the Children’s Madrina Alejandra Sáez Sisamón, and President Elisabeth Breva were among those who participated in the event. The Municipal  Board of the Festival and members of the 75th Anniversary Commission, including the vice president of this commission Jorge Marti Obiol, organized this event. Several members of the Gaiata 15 Commission also attended the event.

Little by little, we are returning to the long-awaited normality and setting off the festive machinery. We hope not to stop again and get soon to those long-awaited Magdalena Festival.
